eBay Partner Network (Updated) #WIWG #2

ebaypn

Formally known as the eBay affiliate program, that was once ran by affiliate giant CJ.com, The (relatively new) eBay Partner Network program is a way for affiliates to make commission by driving traffic into non other than, eBay.

Towards the end of April 2009, the program introduced many new tools making life much easier on the eBay Partner Network site.

When eBay first started their in-house affiliate program, I was lucky to be part of the eBay developer community, I understood RSS linking (and made tons of easy cash integrating it with Twitter and TwitterFeeds as I explained in a 4 hours class on my onlineΒ  school of making money at wahol.com), I also knew flash, AJAX and PHP, therefore, I didn’t have to wait for the support team to fix bugs or any programing issues from their side, instead, I fixed it my self and started making money instantly. Some of you guys will remember seeing the biggest banner I had on this same blog for eBay shopping. That was a big part of my income from this blog.

Now with the totally renovated user interface on the eBay Partner Network site, links, banners, RSS feeds, flash and other apps (Like the facebook app) is much easier, in fact it’s so easy, you will be done setting it up in seconds (Also tested with an 11 years old kid by his mom to see how easy itΒ  is) Thank you Ashley from wahol.com for this info πŸ˜‰

Here are the recent changes in the program or as they call it (upgrades):

  • New functionality for the Link Generator tool
  • The ability to link your eBay account with your eBay Partner Network account
  • A new way to calculate earnings per click (they are now calculated as earnings per one click vs. per 100 clicks)
  • New business model descriptions (to help us provide you with better customer service tailored to your model when possible)

The upgrades were released on May 1st. However, there was some bad news for some partners.

They have also announced that as of July 1st, there will no longer accept 3 business models in the programs, that includes: tier-2 paid search, ad networks, and sub-affiliates.

For that, I will say: BOOO to the network, this means that some third party apps (facebook or mobile apps) will not have the benefit of making a commission based on second tier, and that really sucks in my opinion, but, after all, it is eBay playground, and to be honest, I don’t think eBay needs affiliates to drive traffic to the site any more, but… That’s only my opinion πŸ˜‰

Meeting JohnChow.com in Boston

DSC01172

I have never thought that I will go back to Boston that fast, after being there for a week last year attending eBay live, in fact I still have photos to upload to my flickr account from last years trip (which I am planning on doing within the next week).

However, I was reading my RSS feeds from all over the Internet, like I normally do everyday (Of Course I am subscribed to www.JohnChow.com RSS feed) and I found out that John was coming to visit the U.S. attending the Affiliate Summit east in Boston.

I acted quickly and tried to contact John in every way I could (Mostly by commenting on his blog), and to my surprise, John answered: “Sure! Come on down.”

I quickly got a bus ticket online (it is a long 4 hours ride, but the bus had WiFi access on board, which was just perfect), and I went down to meet John.

Now I have to clarify this: I am not writing this blog post as a blogger, but as a loyal fan of his work.

John was absolutely a humble person, very quite, and straight to the point.

I took the chance to ask him for a video interview to be posted on my blog with some advice from him. He agreed πŸ™‚ (The video will be posted on my YouTube channel shortly and on this blog along with a post).

After meeting John for 15 minutes (That’s all I needed) I felt that I was the luckiest blogger in the world for that moment, so I went on to keep lucky by going to an Irish pub to get my lucky charms from Boston (I had to kill time until the bus time anyway).

However right before I left John, he gave me a gift that any blogger or affiliate marketer will like:

As in the picture below: a duffle bag, a water proof flexible keyboard (lights in the dark), a 2GB flash memory/writing pen and a nice T-shirt.

That was very cool of him, so I thanked him then I asked him this question:

The bag was from an affiliate company called Market Leverage, so I asked him what he thinks of the company, he highly recommended them as a good affiliate network, to check them out click here.

I will write more about this interview and post the video very soon. I will also have a big surprise for you guys soon πŸ˜‰

This was like a dream come true to me, meeting 3 top bloggers in the world is a thing that I considered to accomplish within the next year, now I am one third done πŸ™‚ (The other 2 bloggers are Darren Rowse and Yaro Starak).

New: Guru Of Sales version 1.6!!

Why is it 1.6?
Why not 2.0?
And why now?

First of all, I like to remind you that back in April I only made very little changes since the launch of this blog. We named it version 1.5.
Just recently we added some more changes but it wasn’t big enough to qualify for version 2.0 yet. And in the near future we will have 1.7 or 1.9 whatever it will be, so keep an eye πŸ˜‰

Recent changes includes the following:

New pages:
http://34.205.135.136/services (not to big of a change)
http://34.205.135.136/services/ebay-basics-of-selling (This is a local service only)
http://34.205.135.136/jobs (As promised before. I didn’t forget)
http://34.205.135.136/advertise (To advertise with us)
More pages in the next update.

New categories:
Some of you may know that me and my guest bloggers ran 26 blogs, I joining 5 of them into this blog, also joining most of the other blogs to be sold (Already have 3 offers on the table). In results of that, I added more categories to this blog to reflect the changes.
New categories will involve more than the main purpose of this blog, to include technology (Mainly gadgets) and environment issues like global warming.
In results of the new changes, you will see much more traffic on this blog and we’ll try to keep it all connected. I am also taking this opportunity to announce that some of my bloggers are leaving to be on their own and will only blog here occasionally. So, within a week, I will post for a blogging job opening (Again!) so keep an eye if you’re looking for some extra income.
I had to include this post under all the categories, otherwise, the categories will not show. Take a look near the end of the sidebar to check the new categories.

I would like to thank everyone that worked with me to make all this possible.

Until next time friends πŸ™‚
