Google’s Search Option #WIWG #3

googsearch

This post is the third of a short series of articles, for more info on the series, please .

On May 29th, Google announced the latest addition to their search tools, Search Options.

This is a brand new feature in Google Web Search. Now You can slice and dice your search results using a variety of filters, which generate different views of your results page to more easily and quickly find what you need. And I really like this feature especially the wonder wheel option that will find towards the end of the options, I think it’s a powerful tools for bloggers to choose specific topics when you run out of topics and hit what we call the  writers ‘block’ I would show you more on each of the new options but there is nothing better than for you to go and try it out, go to Google and perform a search then click the “Show options…” link on top of your search results to display the Search Options panel. Also this great video was made by Google, it sure helps learning more about it:

eBay Partner Network (Updated) #WIWG #2

ebaypn

Formally known as the eBay affiliate program, that was once ran by affiliate giant CJ.com, The (relatively new) eBay Partner Network program is a way for affiliates to make commission by driving traffic into non other than, eBay.

Towards the end of April 2009, the program introduced many new tools making life much easier on the eBay Partner Network site.

When eBay first started their in-house affiliate program, I was lucky to be part of the eBay developer community, I understood RSS linking (and made tons of easy cash integrating it with Twitter and TwitterFeeds as I explained in a 4 hours class on my online  school of making money at wahol.com), I also knew flash, AJAX and PHP, therefore, I didn’t have to wait for the support team to fix bugs or any programing issues from their side, instead, I fixed it my self and started making money instantly. Some of you guys will remember seeing the biggest banner I had on this same blog for eBay shopping. That was a big part of my income from this blog.

Now with the totally renovated user interface on the eBay Partner Network site, links, banners, RSS feeds, flash and other apps (Like the facebook app) is much easier, in fact it’s so easy, you will be done setting it up in seconds (Also tested with an 11 years old kid by his mom to see how easy it  is) Thank you Ashley from wahol.com for this info 😉

Here are the recent changes in the program or as they call it (upgrades):

  • New functionality for the Link Generator tool
  • The ability to link your eBay account with your eBay Partner Network account
  • A new way to calculate earnings per click (they are now calculated as earnings per one click vs. per 100 clicks)
  • New business model descriptions (to help us provide you with better customer service tailored to your model when possible)

The upgrades were released on May 1st. However, there was some bad news for some partners.

They have also announced that as of July 1st, there will no longer accept 3 business models in the programs, that includes: tier-2 paid search, ad networks, and sub-affiliates.

For that, I will say: BOOO to the network, this means that some third party apps (facebook or mobile apps) will not have the benefit of making a commission based on second tier, and that really sucks in my opinion, but, after all, it is eBay playground, and to be honest, I don’t think eBay needs affiliates to drive traffic to the site any more, but… That’s only my opinion 😉

Twitter ‘Updates’ are now officially ‘Tweets’

tweets

Around this time last year I ‘Updated’ my old twitter account saying the following:

Prediction: “What Are You Doing?” will be the most asked question of the year in Times magazine. Thanks to Twitter!

It did happen, the question is asked millions of times every day on Twitter web, then I listened to a podcast with @EV from Twitter and when he was asked what it’s called to update your twitter feed? is it ‘to tweet’? He said I guess that’s what’s everyone calling it I guess. But secretly and behind the scene he went on and trademarked the verb ‘Tweet’ to be used ‘to tweet’ my status instead of ‘to update my status on twitter’. Cool 🙂

As of today, if you look on the top right corner of your twitter page (Twitter Web) you will see that your ‘updates’ are now your ‘Tweets’ as in the photo above.  I also heard that twitter will be integrating the term ‘tweet’ throughout the site and some API apps.

Also interesting to know is that the AP Stylebook has declared ‘to tweet’ as legitimate grammar.

After today, I no longer have to correct peeps when they say: I will twitter you back! it is now official ;-p
