We have made more online sales on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday than Cyber Monday this year.
Adobe analysis determined that 105 million people visited retailers on Black Friday and 103 million of them ended up making a purchase, also for the first time in history, Black Friday online sales topped the in-store shopping numbers.
Now with our numbers, if you count the entire weekend from Thanksgiving until Cyber Monday at midnight, all of our online sales were up a 12.3% comparing to last years sales. However, for Cyber Monday alone, the sales went down 7.9% (again compared to last years totals).
This is not counting the incredible success I had with the Master eBay In A Weekend course that I ran a promotion for last week, we sold all 500 spots in a record 3 days and 2 hours from the second I launched it. (for those who have been asking, I may open a few more spots at the same price, I just have been busy with Cyber weekend sales).
I think more people are realizing that shopping on Amazon or eBay is safer, easier and for almost the same prices as if you went to wait for a week outside of Walmart to get the best deals just to end up stepped on by the herd of people behind you, even worse to look like an idiot like this guy in this video going up the escalator the wrong way! Martha Stewart’ American Made store just left eBay to go to Amazon.
This is not a bad thing for eBay at all.
In a statement from eBay’s VP of Merchandise, she said that there are still hundreds of sellers who used to sell through Martha’s eBay store now have their own eBay stores and continue to sell their products.
I think there were a few mistakes with this decision:
Although data is great to rely on, the fact that Martha’s store might sell more products on Amazon, does not mean to completely close down a streamed line of product selling, I personally think they should have kept the eBay channel and expanded beyond that with other channels, I am a firm believer in not putting all your eggs in one basket.
I think that her American Made team should have took my eBay course, why I say that? (Not to be cocky) It’s because I have personally helped hundreds of individuals and big brand businesses build a great business with eBay throughout the years, and I made sure to put my experience and knowledge into it.
I believe this entire situation is simply a marketing stunt to grab attention to the brand, I don’t necessary think it’s a bad thing for eBay or even Etsy for her brand to be on Amazon only.
As for handmade or home made products, I have always suggested to have it listed in as many channels as you can, the fact is that some people are completely loyal to one marketplace, if you’re an Esty buyer, you most likely don’t even shop on eBay or Amazon.
I have to mention that there are many services that will help you manage multiple channels completely from one interface, making your life (and your team’s) much easier.
