My Twitter account was Hacked!!!

twitter

Here is a quick and not too funny story:

Around the end of March, eBay came up with a new policy that prohibited the listings of digital delivery items.

Immediately I closed my 22% income source aka my eBay store, that’s over 3200 items. Why? because it was 100% ebooks (Digital delivery items).

As a good seller, I came up with the same idea that most honest sellers came up with. To burn the ebooks on CDs and sell them as physical items.

Long story short: Having the second biggest eBay store (Items wise) I had to hire an assistant to re-list my items changing each to be in compliance with eBay’s new rules.

That “Jack @##” was invited to do the work from my own computer at my house, then some how managed to find my RoboForm master password, so he hacked into 2 of my eBay accounts and my one and only twitter account and changed the passwords.

Thanks to twitter friends (over 23,000 at the time) I got an @ to my email from some of my loyal friends on twitter, asking me what was wrong with me 🙂

I tried to log in to find out and couldn’t so I went to my twitter address and found out tons of spam, links, and bad replies to my friends.

I figured from the links it was the bastard. I immediately went to my other laptop to log in with my roboform and found out that 3 accounts (mentioned above) had password changed.

Contacted eBay and twitter. eBay fixed the problem within 24 hours and twitter within a week.

I needed my twitter fix within that week, so I went and created another twitter account, luckily the idiot changed the twitter username so my name was available and so I took it back.

It was not easy but I’ve managed to get some of my old friends back, thanks to the saved twitter RSS feeds I had.

I am now announcing that I am back on twitter, safely guarded, and more addicted than ever. So go ahead and follow me.

Still not following? here is the link: www.twitter.com/guruofsales

Within a week I will introduce some great twitter tools, and other cool stuff, good for business or on a personal level.

Word of advice:

1. Do not hire someone named “Jim Dandy” from CraigsList.

2. Do not let strangers on your own machines with passwords saved on it.

3. Do not put all your passwords in one place.

4. Try not to become a tweet addict like my self 😉

See you on twitter 😉

CNET to be sold for $1.8 Billion to CBS

I left for a fast swim this morning and when I got back I found most of my twitter friends talking about 1 thing: CBS bought CNET!

I have been a huge fan of CNET reviews, specially for cameras, I always referred to them first before buying any camera or mp3 player.

All I can say at this point that the giant mass media CBS offered to buy CNET for $1.8 Billion, the biggest aquisition that I know of since Google aquired YouTube ($1.63 B) that brought their stock to almost 45% higher than the closing price of yesterday.

Congratulation to CNET and CBS, so far looks like they both have great future ahead.

Do not put all your eggs on eBay!

A wise man once told me not to put all my eggs in one basket, ever since I listened to his words and used it in almost every day of my life, even in my business strategy.

I said it before and I will say it again, a true entrepreneur will try to multi-stream their income as much as they can, let’s use me as an example:

My income is divided in so many ways, that I technically have 17 jobs! Between blogging, in house ad revenue, out of house ad revenue, affiliate commissions, Elance and Craigslist jobs, other writing jobs, teaching and selling on eBay, SEO consulting and more in the same line of business, I have guaranteed my self a steady income that won’t be effected by any failure in any of the jobs I have.

Today, I read a new book by my good friend Steve Lindhorst (Former eBay University instructor) and first thing came to my mind was the wise man’s words above.

The book is targeted for online sellers and retailers to explain how to multiply your income in no time. If you are currently an eBay seller, you will understand what I mean. And if you are an eBay seller that does not sell any where else then shame on you.

The book will not only take you through multi channel selling on eBay as well as on Amazon.com and according to the New York Times, Amazon beat eBay in traffic for the holidays at the end of 2007, you know what that means? I do. It means a lot more sales, specially with all the current and upcoming changes with eBay, I think it’s way much safer to add another selling channel to your online business.

Not only that, but the book (Selling on the River) will explain in great details how to sell on Amazon, and yes, it’s free to list on Amazon, the book will even show you the differences, and the pros and cons of selling on both eBay and Amazon.

It also came with great 2 bonuses:

1. “25 Things eBay Sellers Must Know about Selling on Amazon”

2. “How to Scout for Top Sellers with Your Cell Phone”

I personally liked the first bonus a lot, and I recommend the book to any eBay seller or any one that would like to start selling online the right way.
