My Biggest eBay Project Since 2008

In February 2008 I started working on my eBay course that was delivered online by video, it took me about 6 months to launch it back then, we had so much success that we got an offer to sell the entire site with all materials for a lot of cash, that’s when we sold WAHOL.com (stands for Work At Home OnLine). I had a blast creating the course and enjoyed answering questions, the best thing about it was not the amount of money I made, but it was the success of my previous members, and I only sold it after everyone got what they wanted from it. Only 2 years later the company that bought it was almost out of business due to some none related bad investments, I offered to buy the domain back and they agreed.

Ever since I sold it, I had extra time to work on my other ventures, affiliate marketing was a big thing and I was making a decent income with very minimal work, as well as continuing teaching my eBay classes and selling of course.

I have been working with my team on a new eBay course all build from scratch, sharing everything I learned throughout the years. My past clients will tell you I have always over delivered information (good useful info that is), and I can tell you that I really get a lot of joy of seeing results, in fact, I tell everyone how proud I am of their progress.

Today, I am launching my course!

Though everything is completely different from what it was 8 years ago, I made sure I include everything I know that will either start you a business from scratch or expand your business, whether you already sell on eBay or not, this course is for everyone.

Throughout the next 2 weeks, I will share more details about it, but I can tell you now it is completely worth it.

The official cart open date is Tuesday October 27th, and it will close down on Sunday November 1st.

I have a few tiers launching this course, including beta testers, email subscribers, affiliates and JV’s, and then we have a huge ad campaign including online, newspapers and possibly TV spots. If you want to keep up to date, you can do 1 of 2 things:

  1. You can join my periscope if you download the app and follow 1LX. (Psssst… I will be scoping today at 3pm EST).
  2. Sign up for the mail list on the right side of this article.

I will have a few short classes that will be extremely useful for free during the 2 weeks launch, the 2 methods above are the only 2 ways to get the free classes notifications.

I can not tell how truly excited I am about this, it’s going to be awesome 🙂

How did I sell my site for $30,000 in 3 months! Part 2 of 2

Exactly one month ago I have announced the sale of my young site/program Wahol.com.

Today, I will tell you how I did it!

This article includes lots of important information, grab a cup of coffee before you continue reading!

To read the first part, go here.

1. How I came up with the business idea:

Throughout the years of being an entrepreneur online, I found out that I was not the only person on the planet that’s hungry for information, in fact, I have found out that even after school, people are still in need of knowledge, some will pursue a collage education, a night school, or just some private lessons.

And since I have started blogging in 2004, or speaking in seminars in 2006, I have been asked many questions related to my business, it didn’t matter if it was about online business, marketing, new technology or even Twitter!

Everyone had a question, but the main question was: Why did you choose this line of business?
Here is my answer: When I asked a friend of mine why did he choose to open a restaurant? he answered a very simple answer: People will never stop eating! Which is true. So all I did was to translate that answer into my business: What is the main thing that any business in the world needs? The answer was: Marketing, advertising, exposure, and most importantly, to make money!

From there I have started my journey, and until today, I still answer hungry business minds, whether by blogging, on forums or even by phone!

Then it all came to me, why not put everything I know in a form that everyone can share. And knowing me, I knew that there is no better place to share with the world than on the Internet. And that’s where my business idea came from.

2. The business plan:

This one was easy, as I have been doing for a while now.
I have to say, that throughout the years, many potential business partners came to me asking for ideas, which I had a lot of, but the best idea was to do it like the big players.
Let me explain with an example:
An old friend, with an established business and a fair amount of knowledge came to me and asked me out on a “business date in the park” over 3 years ago.
The weather was nice and the economy was at it’s best!
The business idea was an education site (kinda like Wahol.com) but for a specific kind of business type to teach the people about.
My first suggestion was blogging (Remember that was back when blogging was not hip), then I suggested videos online (YouTube was still a baby back then) and to include forums.
Then the next question came: How will this make me money? I said it won’t, but the advertising on your blog will make you money, and I explained: The same way Google and Yahoo makes billions, offer free services or contents and just add the little thing we call AdSense on it!
I will not tell you how scared my friend’s face looked when I said that. This is what I heard next: I will lose my business brand!
OK, first of all, what brand? The business is not even established yet.
Second of all, Google and Yahoo still holding their brands (Until today and for years to come), yet again they don’t charge you to search!
So my friend agreed on offering free content (for a while) I even helped building the wordpress blog, but then the shock came to me when that first blog was ignored and the new blog/school was a membership with a monthly fee service (still with advertising for affiliate commission supported), that’s when I withdrew my services, but before I did, I said what I have always believed in: Remember, sharing is giving. Within a year that business went down the hill, even with more than half of it’s member that have free access, still it went down. I wonder why?!
So, my business plan was this:
Create the content in a sharable format, make it available for free, and use the empty space on the site for the advertisement.

3. The request!

So many options are out there to monetize any site or blog, however, I followed what John Chow (JohnChow.com) once said: Ask, and you shall receive.
So I asked!
And not that I have anything against membership sites (You know I am a huge fan of Yaro’s Blog Mastermind), but I truly believe that seeking your sources is a better way to accomplish your income, and that the say (If you build it they will come) is just trash talk.
Here is what I did:
I built 2 lists of potential advertisers/sponsors.
The first one was for the big corporate.
The second was for small to mid-sized companies
Both lists shared one thing, that the sponsor’s product must be related to the content that I have created.
So I grabbed the phone and looked for emails, and within 2 days I landed 2 great deals with 2 huge sponsors, Sony and T-Mobile.
All I had to do after that is to work out the deal with them.
4. Exposing it all to the public:
That was the easy part, after all, it’s what I do almost on a daily basis.
There is 2 parts at this stage:
a.       Do a beta product launch to get the mass to sign up, in other words, when there is a deadline and limited seats available, people in general don’t like to be left out, and so was the signing up for Wahol.com, especially if it’s for free!
b.      Do what I call: my in-house explosion marketing technique. (For the purpose of this article’s length, I will write an entire series of articles to explain this stage of the business, sign up to keep up to date).
5. Giving it 100%:
Until today, I think that by giving my members every effort I can, to answer questions or to be available and reachable, is the reason I got the offer to buy the entire business.
It’s very simple (with the help of one of my marketing techniques that I promise that I will tell you all about it soon) I have accomplished the idea behind the saying (Sharing is giving) and (Give and you will get back). I had no attention of building this to sell it, and I only asked for sponsors so I can make a descent income (After all it is a job and I had to get paid somehow!) and so when the offer came in, well, you know the rest of that story.
6. The numbers!
And this is not to brag or to show off, this is only for people that I know they will ask if I didn’t disclose it.
Altogether from beginning to end, the total that I have made of this project was $102,000! Not bad for the worst economy crisis and for about 3 months of hard work!
This is not the end. This is the beginning if a lot of good stuff to come.
Stay tuned for the upcoming series of articles of a powerful marketing plan that no one else will tell you about, and for news and upgrades that will happen only because of the sale of Wahol.com.

How did I sell my site for $30,000 in 3 months! Part 1 of 2

Actually, I sold it for $48,000 in less than 3 months.

I am talking about my training program website at www.Wahol.com.

I have been busy the last 2 weeks or so to finalize this project, and that’s why I haven’t been posting here.

About 4 weeks ago, I was approached by someone I met at a trade show back in October, an Internet marketing company, to buy my website/training program at Wahol.com.

I was not surprised, the same company had 3 employees signing up and hinting to me during the beta run of the program.

Due to the success they have found through our sponsors on Wahol.com, they have offered me to buy the site and it’s content, and as you know, I am not the selling type!

However, I thought that it was a great idea, knowing that they will keep my vision and the content will still be the same without any tampering, for example:  The program will stay free for members and they will not add any type of cheesy affiliate links in it!

I also know that my loyal members who signed up, will alert me immediately if they find anything that they might not like.

We have now over 700 members, my original cap on members was 500, but you guys kept coming in 🙂
And I noticed that with the help of my project partner Mark and other members on the beta run, that it’s not really that much of an effort to maintain the site, plus the fact that the new buyer asked to open it for the public by the next period, we have agreed on unlimited number of members to the program and the doors will open with a huge product launch on June 15th 2009.

For those of you that may not know, the program runs for a 22 weeks period then 2 weeks break then it starts over again with a very minor updates.

The deal was that we will get paid $30,000 upfront and $3000 a month for the next 24 weeks starting on June 15th, and the buyers identity will be revealed at the end of 2009.

This is me below signing the contract and sealing the deal, the first photo was taken as a surprise to me, so to clarify it, I was not listening to Pink Floyd while I was signing 😉

In the next part of this article I will tell you how I did it, what techniques did I do to sell this site in a very short time. The idea is very simple and  doable at almost any blog or website that you own. So stay tuned.

Kangaroos can save you money. (Really!)

Yaro just informed me that his Blog Mastermind coaching program charges in Australian dollars.
Most online coaching programs charge in American dollars, and since the US dollar is anywhere from 5% to 10% stronger than the Aussie dollar as I write this, that’s a 5% to 10% price saving for
you if you join Blog Mastermind.

You can sign-up here: Blog Mastermind
By now you probably know about Blog Mastermind. Thanks to the Conversion Blogging video, the Blog Profits Blueprint and the interview with a million dollar blogger, Yaro’s blog coaching program opening built up a lot of buzz last week.
If you haven’t seen any of the videos, or read the Blueprint or listened to the million dollar blogger interview, you can start right now (it
won’t cost anything) by going here.
Already over 300 people have joined and are busy studying the materials, interacting in the community forums and using the Social Traffic Club to drive traffic to their blogs.
Yaro explained to me that he wanted to charge in $USD, but his Australian bank would not accept the currency, and since it was so close to the opening of his program, he decided to just go with $AUD.
In case you don’t know, Yaro is from Australia, though he sounds a lot like a Canadian sometimes because of his parents.
He did say that his bank would change in the near future, and as soon as $USD is accepted he would switch back.
If you want to lock in the discount by paying in Australian dollars, you should join Blog Mastermind as soon as you can. Here’s the order
page:  Blog Mastermind
Blog Mastermind is not just a course where you are left on your own to go through the training by yourself. It’s a real community, led by mentors
who are successful bloggers, including Yaro himself.
If you are still not sure, but because of the cheaper price you are interested, you should head to Google and type in “Blog Mastermind Reviews” and see what other people are saying about the program.
500 people have participated in the course since it’s first run back in 2007 (it was closed since December 07), so there is plenty of feedback online coming from completely impartial people who have already taken the course.
It’s a smart idea to do research before joining any program, and I think in this case you will find the general consensus is that Blog Mastermind is well worth the cost of admission, especially when it is in Australian dollars.
Here’s the link for more information (and make sure you watch the behind the scenes tour video Yaro presents at the start of the page):
Blog Mastermind
Good luck with your blog!

PS. The US Dollar, as you probably realize, is not doing so well lately. There’s a possibility that the Australian dollar will get stronger, so the discount if you are used to paying in US dollars, will not be a discount any more – instead it will be more expensive.
I suggest if you have any inclination to join Yaro’s coaching program that you do so soon so you can lock in the discounted price thanks to the currency difference.

Skype Prime announced major improvements

2 Days ago, Skype announced some major improvements to their Skype Prime service. To explain what the service is, I will simply say that it’s a service that will enable you to charge for voice consulting calls. The way it works, someone will call you, for a service that you have experiance in, they will pay you on a minute based (you set the price) and you get paid through PayPal, and that’s all.
The changes are made to the directory where your services will be listed. Now they have an all new advice and services directory, it’s now fully searchable so it’s easy for customers to find you.
A new rating system, the higher your customers rate you, the higher you will appear in any search results.
They also advertise for it more now so you will start getting more calls.
To start listing your services go here, download Skype and install it (Skip this step if you already have Skype), when you’re online, go to the account menu, click on Skype Prime and follow the easy steps to setup your services. Good luck 🙂

ALL NEW: Paypal button factory

My good friend Damon Williams (one of the top developers at PayPal) have just announced the new PayPal button factory.
For those of you who don’t know what PayPal is, (I have a couple of videos and a couple of posts coming up soon) PayPal simply is a safe fast way to accept money online.
Before I go any further, I have to say that as I am writing this, this new improvement is only available to developers and will be available soon at PayPal.com, however, since I am a certified PayPal developer, I took a look at the new very useful enhancements on the new button factory, and I like it a lot (specially the first 2), here are the new option from Damon’s blog post:

– Multiple drop-down options per button (e.g., Size,
Color, etc), and we’ve removed the limit of having just two optional fields

– The ability to set price by options (e.g., $8 for
medium t-shirts and $10 for large)

– Inventory tracking and management capability

– Simple button customization (e.g., add credit card
logos, make a smaller size, etc.)

– The ability to track profits and margins by products

– Save commonly created buttons

– Easy-to-use encryption

– And much more…

I hope all of my fellow nerds like it.
